OK, when Mitt Romney said, “I like to fire people,” he was talking about consumers’ freedom to choose their health insurance providers. I get it.
But it was such an unfortunately articulated remark that his Republican rivals — Huntsman, Perry and Gingrich — jumped on it. It wasn’t just Democrats.
And it’s far from the first time that Romney has put his silver foot in his mouth. Check out this list from The New Republican of other out-of-touch comments from the former Massachusetts governor. (What’s your favorite? I vote for “I’m also unemployed.”) The list doesn’t even include another classic: “I’m running for office, for Pete’s sake. I can’t have illegals.”
Romney could turn out to be a formidable challenger to President Obama — that is, if he doesn’t keep saying stupid things.
